The shilling is the currency of Kenya, which may be subdivided into 100 cents. Keyna is a country in East Africa which lies directly on the equator. It is bordered by Tanzania, Uganda, South Sudan, Ethiopia and Somalia.
Kenya was ruled by the British for almost 100 years, gaining independence from the United Kingdom in 1963. From 1964 Kenya’s government has been a Devoted Republic, with an elected President and Parliament. The Kenyan shilling replaced the East African shilling in 1966 at par.
More recently, the currency has been experiencing heavy volatility. The exchange rate of the Kenyan shilling slumped dramatically in mid-2011, so The Central Bank of Kenya shifted its target to tighten liquidity which included increasing interest rates.
